Nooo idea who any of you are. I joined literally for this topic and this topic alone...
I've had my left year pierced for over two years now. I've had my right one pierced three times. The first time I took off the locking back that it comes with because I hated trying to take it off with my left ear. So when I could get it off with my right ear, I took it off right away. Then during my sleep, I some how flicked it out of my ear. It closed up in about 4 hours of more sleep... The second time I took it out after a day and tried to stretch it up to a 16g. It didn't work. I tried re-piercing my ear with the earring, but it just closed around it right away. Third time was a charm. I waited the six weeks to start stretching it.
A normal piercing (the earring you get from Wal-Mart or most stores like it) is either a 20g or an 18g. From there it goes down to 00g skipping odd numbers. So it goes, 20g, 18g, 16g, 14g, 12g, 10g, 8g, 6g, 4g, 2g, 0g, 00g. Depending on who you talk to, you can either hear, 0g or 00g is the "point of no return," as you stated in your original post. I myself have heard both.
So you guys can get an understanding of the sizes.. a 20/18 is a normal earring. 16 is about a thumb tack. 14 is about the size of a wire coat hanger. 12 is about the size of spaghetti. 10 is like a tooth pick or a q-tip shaft. 8 is like a coffee swizzle. 6 is about the size of a sucker stick or a juice box straw. 4 is a chop stick. 2 is a drinking straw. 0 is the size of a pencil and 00 is the size of a fat crayon.
That should give you guys an idea of the sizes of the gauge.
I started with the normal piercing and because I'm so G, I skipped every other gauge. I went from an earring to a 14g for a day and a half to a 10 for a couple of days then down to a 6. I stayed there for awhile only because I didn't have money to go get any more gauges. I then found out about the chop stick being a 4. I looked in the kitchen for some and found them. I stuck them in and had 4g's. I then went on eBay and found a company that sells them for less than 5 bucks when Hot Topic sells them for more than 15. I currently have 2g's in and am waiting for my 0g and 00g's to come in the mail from the same company.
I used Triple Antibiotic Ointment when stretching because I figured it would give them a good clean as well as work as lube. Hurt like a mofo, but in the end, worked great. I can proudly say I have perfect ear lobes.
As said above, I'm a bit scared of going much bigger because I need a job. I'm 17 and need a job for gas money. But with my gauges in, I feel it will be harder to get one. There are plenty of ways to hide it, but still.. :\ (Way to hide it is go to Wal-Mart and get the
big earring backs and an earring you like and put it in. I'm talking about the clear ones on the bottom of the picture by the way..)
For anyone who IS stretching their ears and want a good place to buy tapers from, shoot me a PM and I'll hit you up with that eBay company I was talking about. They come as a pair, so they are good if you are actually going to wear them. Otherwise I would suggest just getting a taper set where they come with ONE taper per size. You can find them on eBay for around 20 bucks.
Good lucky to anyone stretching.
p.s. Don't go to fast or you'll get a blow out. They are sick and nasty. And if you lobes get really hard and you have pains in your jaw/neck, take out the size you have in and just downsize to the next size down. /personal experience.
