| "I killed the five racists that were bothering me" - Quote :
- A disgruntled employee was being escorted from Hartford Distributors after a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday morning when he fired the firstshots in a mass shooting that left eight coworkers dead and two
injured, officials said. Then he turned the gun on himself, police said.Union officials have identified the shooter as Omar Thornton, 34, a driver at the beer distribution company who was asked to resign or be fired for stealing beer from the warehouse. 9 Dead in Beer Distributor Shooting | NBC Connecticut Omar Thornton: "I Killed the Five Racists That Were Bothering Me" - Crimesider - CBS News This happened about 15 minutes away from where I live. My father is a police officer in an adjacent town and gave me the low down when he got home. Being someone who doesn't watch the news, listen to the radio, or really pay much attention to the news online each day, I hadn't heard of it until then. Apparently he was getting a lot of racial harassment at his job. One story I read said something about a noose being drawn in the bathroom among other things. People are fucking horrible and I'm sick of having to hear about these kinds of things, the close proximity only makes it that much worse.</blockquote>

| No excuse to shoot somebody over it though. I don't know what the story is or what all harassment he was getting. But in some form one way or another everybody gets harassed or picked on in one way or another. I have worked with several morons in my day but you can't shoot or fight everybody that you have problems with. | |

| It's sad to see that people act the way they do, and it's a shame we just all can't get along. I'd be freaked out if that happened so close to me, and I'd be even more afraid if my dad was a cop. I think Superdave's right though, he shouldn't have gone on a rampage, even if what they did was horrible, it still doesn't justify taking someone's life. There's my 2 cents for the day. | |

| In this day and age, people should know you cant tease/harass people like you could in the 50's. Bitches got guns now. | |

| Since your dad is a police officer I'm sure you are more in the know than I am, but whether the guy is being harassed or not, killing 9 people and injuring 2 more is by no means justification to get back at them, no matter HOW bad he was getting harassed. Is it messed up what they were doing(nooses and shit) fuck yea..but that still doesn't warrant going on a shooting spree. This really is a sad, sad event..if the guy was getting harassed that bad, then he needs to take action if the union isn't doing shit. And by that I mean changing jobs or getting therapy or something.. | |

| My "people are fucking horrible" comment goes to the harassed and the harassers (I hope that's a word?). It's pitiful that people still treat people that way, especially in the workplace where you should maintain a level of professionalism whether you work on Wall Street or at Dunkin' Donuts. You should have enough SELF respect not to portray yourself in that light at work, even if you have no respect for the other party.
Obviously the gunman is a piece of work too, and far worse than those who were giving him trouble. This is going to bring up all the usual "how far can you push someone...." talk that these kinds of shootings always do, and it's not going to do a damn thing. In another few months to a year there will be another thread like this or even worse. It used to be sometimes, but now I find it's more often that I find myself being ashamed of being human.
